Today we celebrate 142 years since the foundation of the Maritime School in Ruse. On the occasion of the anniversary, Deputy Mayor Dimitar Nedev laid flowers at the memorial plaque of its founder and first commander of the Bulgarian Navy Captain-Lieutenant Alexander Egorovich Konkevich.
The Naval School was formed at the Danube Flotilla in Ruse on 9 January 1881 and is considered the predecessor of today's Higher Naval School "N. Y. Vaptsarov" in Varna. It enrolled young men from 14 to 18 years of age to "prepare them for machinists and other skilled trades. "
From 1892 it trained midshipmen, gunners, miners and machinists, and in the following year the first "Provisional Naval Science Course" was formed to train midshipmen.
In 1900 the machine school was relocated to Varna under the name of "Machine School at the Navy" and was attached to the "Naval Unit", and the part that remained in Ruse was transformed into the "Mining and Fire School".
Creative Centre Ruse foresees a number of trainings in 2023.
