7 nominations out of a total of 65 proposals for the Elias Canetti National Literary Award 2025

The specialized commission for selection, nomination and awarding of the National Literary Award "Elias Canetti" 2025, appointed by order of the mayor of the municipality of Ruse, has determined the nominees for the prestigious literary award. Out of a total of 65 proposals, the jury ranked 7, observing the regulations and criteria for assessing the artistic value of each proposed work, which must correspond in humanism and cosmopolitanism to the ideas of Nobel laureate Elias Canetti.

The 7 nominated authors and titles in the "Fiction" section this year are Radoslav Bimbalov - "You, My Resemblance" (Published by "Janet 45"), Georgi Gospodinov - "The Gardener and Death" (Published by "Janet 45"), Deyan Enev - "Sixty Stories" (Published by "Janet 45"), Violeta Radkova - "And Our Bed is Greenery" (Published by "Janet 45"), Zahari Karabashliev - "Wound" (Published by "Siela"), Ivan Stankov - "In Two Voices" (Published by "Hermes") and Krasimir Dimovski - "Theseus in His Labyrinth" (Published by "Hermes").

No nomination was submitted in the "Drama" section.

The 7-member committee this year invited the following to participate: literary historian and theorist Prof. Dr. Plamen Doinov, who was also the chairman of the committee, Prof. Dr. Cleo Protohristova - literary historian and theorist, Prof. Dr. Penka Angelova - chairman of the International Elias Canetti Society, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Velislava Doneva - Angel Kanchev University of Literature, representative of the Municipality of Ruse, Krum Gergitsov - theater historian and critic, Teodora Dimova - writer, nominated for the Elias Canetti Award in 2021 and Kosyo Stanev - representative of the Standing Committee on Culture and Religious Affairs at the Municipal Council - Ruse.

The National Elias Canetti Literary Award was established by the Municipality of Ruse and the International Elias Canetti Society in 2005 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Nobel Prize-winning writer Elias Canetti, who was born in Ruse. Over 110 Bulgarian publishing houses have participated in the competition for the award over the years. A total of 443 proposals have been submitted in both sections from 2005 to the present, with 85 nominated contemporary Bulgarian authors.
