The 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People's Republic of China (PRC) and the Republic of Bulgaria was solemnly celebrated today in the central foyer of the University of Ruse. The event marked the beginning of the Celebrations of Chinese Culture in Ruse's alma mater.
The ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Ruse Municipality Pencho Milkov, Academician. Hristo Beloev - Honorary Rector of Ruse University and Chairman of the General Assembly, Dr. Yang Tian - Head of the Department of Education at the Embassy of the PRC in the Republic of Bulgaria, Dr. Rositsa Georgieva - Head of the RDE - Ruse, as well as the Vice-Rectors of Ruse University Associate Professor Desislava Atanasova and Prof. Teodoro Iliev.
In his speech, Mayor Pencho Milkov stressed the importance of the long-standing friendly relations between the two countries. "Bulgaria is the second country to recognize the People's Republic of China and establish diplomatic relations with it 75 years ago," he said. Now Ruse Municipality has taken steps to twinning with the Chinese city of Ichung, which I believe will contribute to the development of Ruse University and Confucius Classroom, as well as to the strengthening of economic and cultural ties between China and Bulgaria. It is our responsibility to continue to develop these relations," he added.
The solemn program included music and dance performances, songs and a demonstration of a traditional Chinese tea ceremony. Guests also had the opportunity to view the "Chinese Gardens' exhibition, courtesy of the Embassy of the PRC. The exhibition features 15 photographs capturing the unique beauty of gardens at historical and tourist sites in various provinces of China.
The event confirmed the importance of cultural and educational exchange between the two countries, emphasizing the role of Ruse as a bridge for friendship between Bulgaria and China.
