Two national canoe-kayak competitors were honored as "Athlete of the Month"

Mayor Pencho Milkov today honored two graduates of the Major Atanas Uzunov Sports School - Emil Yordanov and Venimir Zhelev - as "Athlete of the Month". They earned the recognition for their successes in the Republican Canoeing Championship. The students are national competitors and train at the Lokomotiv Canoeing Sports Club in Ruse.
Eleventh-grader Emil Yordanov is a three-time Republican champion in the K4-500 meters and K2-1000 meters disciplines. Venimir Zhelev, who is in 12th grade, won first place in the Republican Championship in the K2-1000 meters and K4-500 meters disciplines, and in K1-1000 meters he climbed to fourth place.
Since the 5th grade, Emil and Venimir have been training every day for 5 hours. They commented that their successes are due to a lot of work, will, discipline and the daily coaching efforts of Eva Pasheva. Emil shared that for 365 days a year he only requested 5 days off without training.
The mayor presented congratulatory addresses to the two competitors. He emphasized that they were honored as "Athlete of the Month" not only because they achieved sporting successes, but also because they demonstrated moral and strong-willed qualities. "You are not only rowers, but also exemplary personalities. Be hardworking and trust your coaches and director, who are sometimes strict, but are motivated to take care of you and will lead you to more successes," said Milkov.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Mayor Borislav Rachev, Director of ME "Sports Properties" Lachezar Ivanov, Director of the Sports School Evgeni Nedev and canoeing coach Eva Pasheva.
Evgeni Nedev recalled that this year the Sports School in Ruse received an award from the Minister of Youth and Sports because the educational institution ranks first in the country in terms of the number of students who have achieved high sports results.
