Christmas cards for people in need were made by the youth of the Crisis Center for Unaccompanied Persons

Saturday, 24 December 2022

250 Christmas cards were made by the young people housed in the first Center of its kind in Bulgaria for unaccompanied children, foreign citizens and refugee children at risk. They will be distributed to all socially weak people under the "Hot Lunch in Ruse Municipality" project.

The center is the newest social service in the municipality and started working less than 2 months ago. It has a capacity of 16 people, who can be accommodated in rooms with a private bathroom.

"Currently, 2 persons are accommodated here - one from Afghanistan and one from Syria. At first they were worried and excited, but now they feel calm and even though they are Muslims, they made the cards for the Christian holiday with great desire," said manager Reyhan Ablekim.

"In Ruse, as a border town, there are so many people with difficult fates that Ruse Municipality supports. With funds from the state, we now have the opportunity to take care of persons at risk," commented the mayor, Pencho Milkov. He added that the administration's efforts are aimed at supporting the team in the first days of its formation, and even though the number of people accommodated in the center is small , the situation is likely to change quickly, pointing to the wave of refugees from Ukraine to Bulgaria this spring as an example.

Navid and Zakaria, who live in the center, are 17 years old. The two are being worked on to obtain the status of persons under protection, which will give them the right to continue their education here and work.
