The Ambassador of India to Bulgaria H. E. Sanjay Rana was received today by the Deputy Mayor of Ruse Municipality Dimitar Nedev. The meeting was also attended by the Chairman of the Municipal Council Academician Hristo Beloev, and this was the second visit of the Indian senior diplomat to Ruse.
"Your visit will certainly contribute to strengthening ties between our communities and create new opportunities for cooperation. Ruse has a rich cultural heritage and economic potential, our city is open and hospitable, ready to engage at any moment in a constructive and mutually beneficial bilateral dialogue," the Deputy Mayor addressed the first Indian diplomat in our country.
"With its development and location Ruse is an important Bulgarian city and we intend to deepen our relations with you in many areas," said H. E. Sanjay Rana. He shared his excellent impressions of Ruse during his first visit to the city in March 2022, noting his satisfaction with the organization of the then International Festival "March Music Days".
Deputy Mayor Dimitar Nedev introduced H. E. Sanjay Rana with the contemporary development of the city and the municipality, the economic profile of Ruse and the potential for investment in the region. During the talks, the close cooperation between the Asian country and Ruse was discussed, as well as the opportunities for closer cultural and business contacts.
Areas where Bulgaria and India have a real opportunity to expand their partnership, besides culture and tourism, are investments in the IT sector, it became clear during the meeting. H. E. Sanjay Rana noted that two of India's largest IT companies have already opened offices in the country and intend to further explore investment opportunities for other business organisations. Among the topics raised was that of twinning Ruse with Indian cities and establishing closer economic and cultural ties at regional level through visits of delegations from both countries.
During the meeting, the presentation of Indian culture at the traditional exhibition "Weekend Tourism" was also discussed, as well as the organization of joint cultural events.
Later in the day H.E. Sanjay Rana will meet with representatives of the Ruse Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with the management of the Ruse University "Angel Kanchev", as well as with Indian students studying at the higher educational institution.
The Indian diplomat's visit to the city coincides with the opening of the Ahimsa: Nonviolence exhibition this evening. It was inspired by the ideas of Mahatma Gandhi and was organized by the Rousse Art Gallery and the East-West Indological Foundation, with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of India in Bulgaria. The exposition was initiated by the sculptor Prof. Emil Popov, the artist Prof. Stanislav Pamukchiev and the Indologist Yordanka Boyanova. Her thematic focus is on ahimsa or non-violence, which is the foundational life principle in Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy and works.
