Late last night, a festive concert of the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra was held in the Athenaeum building in Bucharest on the occasion of the National Day of Bulgaria, March 3. The event was organized by the Embassy of Bulgaria in Romania and H.E. Radko Vlaykov, with Deputy Mayor Dimitar Nedev as a guest of the event.
“Today’s event is yet another proof of the deep cultural and historical ties between Bulgaria and Romania, as well as our common aspirations for friendship, cooperation and development. Let this holiday remind us of the power of unity, the importance of freedom and the responsibility we bear towards the future,” Dimitar Nedev addressed Ambassador Vlaykov.
The official event was attended by a number of diplomats, as well as representatives of the Bulgarian community in Romania. The concert was also attended by the Vicar of the Metropolitan of Ruse, Naum, and the Executive Director of the Euroregion Danubius Association, Lili Gancheva.
The concert included performances by the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Maestro Naiden Todorov. The soloist was one of the most prominent Bulgarian pianists, Georgi Cherkin. The guests enjoyed works by Marin Goleminov, Pancho Vladigerov and Veselin Stoyanov.
During the solemn concert, a video address was made by the Prime Minister of Bulgaria, Rosen Zhelyazkov. Speeches on the occasion were also delivered by the State Secretary of Romania, Ruxandra Ivan, and the State Secretary, Luca Niculescu, on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of our northern neighbor.
Yesterday, the Parliament in Bucharest – the second largest administrative building in the world – was illuminated in white, green and red on the occasion of the National Day of Bulgaria. The decision was made by the Permanent Bureau of the Chamber of Deputies at the request of the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Romania.
