The Bulgarian Telegraph Agency celebrated 125 years since its foundation with a concert of the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Emil Tabakov. In honour of the celebration in the capital's "Bulgaria" Hall were performed works by Marin Goleminov, Lyubomir Pipkov, Emil Tabakov, Veselin Stoyanov and Petko Stainov. Guest of the event was the Deputy Mayor of Ruse Municipality Encho Enchev.
"With today's anniversary celebration, we honor the professionalism and commitment to self-improvement of all employees who have contributed their knowledge and energy to the agency's prosperity. "
With these words the Deputy Mayor congratulated the Director of BTA Kiril Valchev. Encho Enchev wished the agency to continue to establish itself as one of the most reliable sources of information for the print and electronic media, state institutions and NGOs in Bulgaria.
The event was attended by Vice President Iliana Iotova, ministers, members of the Constitutional Court, representatives of institutions and municipalities, the diplomatic corps, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, former and current employees of BTA, including former directors general.
BTA is one of the first news agencies in Europe and the world. On February 16, 1898, its first bulletin appeared, handwritten by then-director Oscar Iskander. It contains information on the health of Princess Clementine, political events in the Balkan capitals, an upcoming duel in Paris, and price movements on European stock exchanges. Some of the best Bulgarian artists, journalists and translators started their careers at BTA - Yordan Yovkov, Nikolai Liliev, Dimitar Boyadzhiev, Joseph Herbst, Petar Uvaliev, Tsvetan Stoyanov, Serafim Severnyak, Stefan Prodev, Petko Bocharov and others.
In 2021, the BTA Press Club was established in Ruse. It is located in the emblematic building of the former joint-stock savings company "Girdap", which was also the first private bank in Bulgaria, founded in 1881. The idea for its creation was realized after the Director General of the BTA Kiril Valchev and the Mayor Pencho Milkov signed a contract for a 10-year free lease of the premises in the building, which the citizen of Ruse call "The Clock".
