On April 20 /Saturday/ at 12 pm at the City Stadium in Ruse will start the ultramarathon "Danube 24 hours running". After the success of the first edition this year, more than 100 athletes from 8 countries have entered the race. This became clear at a press conference today, where details of the sporting event were given. It was attended by the Deputy Mayor Borislav Rachev, the Director of ME "Sports Estates" Lachezar Ivanov, the athlete and organizer of the event Vihren Ivanov-Viro and the President of the Sports Athletics Club "Dunav" Evgeni Ignatov. the 24-hour ultramarathon on a track is organized with the support of Ruse Municipality.
"Thank you for again choosing Ruse to host this important sporting event," said Deputy Mayor Borislav Rachev.
The disciplines in which the athletes will compete on Saturday are individual: 6, 12 and 24 hours. There will be a 50km, 100km and 100 mile relay, as well as a relay of three runners running 2 hours each.
The ultramarathon will end on April 21 at 12 pm when the best athletes will be awarded. The event is free for spectators.
This year "Danube 24 Hours Run" will be held with a cause - to support the Alexander Rusev Foundation for the construction of the water-rehabilitation center for children and adults with mental and physical disabilities. There will be a donation box set up in the stadium during the race.
The municipality of Ruse will provide funds from its budget for geodetic measurements of certain distances in open urban spaces such as the Central City and the two parks, so that marathons can be held outside the stadiums. The aim of such an initiative is to allow more people to experience the sport and be attracted by running, as well as to promote Ruse as a sports destination.
