This year European and National champion Tatiana Obretenova celebrated her 50th anniversary in gliding. For her overall contribution to the development of this sport she received a gold badge from Mayor Pencho Milkov.
"It is admirable that for so many years you and the community you represent have worked steadfastly to restore this prestigious sport on the Bulgarian sports map," the mayor congratulated her.
"Since 1994 there has not been a championship in Bulgaria. It so happened that at the last one I became the champion and after such a big break I am organizing it this year," said Obretenova.
The mayor declared his readiness to assist in the establishment of a club in Ruse and support sport flying. One of the possibilities is the exemption of fees for the use of Ruse airport for training and competitions.
The National Gliding Championship "Ludogorie-2022" is the second competition after a 26-year break. It ended a few days ago and its promoter and organizer was Tanya Obretenova.
Dozens of sports enthusiasts and pilots from Ruse, Veliko Tarnovo, Sofia, Montana and Razgrad gathered near the village of Blagoevo to share the thrill of gliding in the heights.
Zms Tatiana Obretenova was born in the village of Shchryaklevo and her passion for airplanes and flying started at an early age. Her first flights were when she was 16 years old and in the period 1981-1985 she set 3 records for straight flight distance and 2 for speed on a 300 km route to a target with return in different classes.
