Sambo competitor Zoya Ivanova received an award today from Mayor Pencho Milkov for winning the bronze medal at the World Championships in Larnaca, Greece. The 16-year-old athlete from the Spartak Sports Club won third place in the girls' 65 kg category.
The mayor congratulated the student on her success, which is a source of pride for both Ruse and the entire country. He emphasized that Zoya's achievement is the result of a lot of hard work, discipline and self-discipline. "I congratulate you on your success, for your intelligence, for the calmness and confidence that you radiate. Bravo to the club, the coach and the parents who support you. Meetings like these enrich me, and people like you give me confidence that our country has a future," said the mayor and presented Zoya Ivanova with a cash prize and a congratulatory address.
The competitor thanked her family, her coaches and everyone who contributed to her success. "When they raised my hand as the winner for third place, I was very happy because I knew that I had done something to glorify Bulgaria before the world," shared the young athlete. Her personal coach Vladimir Velikov from the Spartak Sports Club expressed his pride in the successes of the tenth grader, who has already won over 30 medals. "Zoya is one of the most talented competitors, because when she steps onto the tatami, she creates," commented Velikov, who also received a congratulatory address.
At the World Championships, Zoya Ivanova prevailed over her rivals from Serbia and Ukraine, but lost to her competitor from Russia. The student from Secondary School "Friedrich Schiller" is a three-time republican champion in sambo, Bulgarian champion in judo and a two-time bronze medalist in judo.
The award ceremony was also attended by Borislav Rachev - Deputy Mayor "Sports and Youth Activities", Lachezar Ivanov - Director of the Municipal Enterprise "Sports Properties", Maya Petrova - Director of the Student Sports School and Ivan Dimitrov - Member of the Board of Directors of SC "Spartak".
