The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan in Bulgaria H.E. Narahira Hiroshi was on a working visit to Ruse today. He was accompanied by Kei Taneda, First Secretary for Economic Affairs at the Embassy.

In a conversation with the mayor Pencho Milkov and his deputies, the issues of the economy, tourism and infrastructure in Ruse and the region were discussed. Ambassador Hiroshi shared that many of the Japanese are familiar with the main Bulgarian riches, but he was pleasantly surprised when he arrived in Bulgaria in 2020.

"Your country has a beautiful nature, a rich history from ancient times, and I think that Bulgarians can be very proud, both of it and of their excellent agricultural production," he shared. According to His Excellency Hiroshi Bulgaria provides excellent human resources and opportunities for the development of startups. He congratulated the mayor for the introduction of robotics training in all kindergartens in the municipality.

"In the Ruse Industrial Park, a training center for personnel should be operational within a few months, based on our Memorandum of Cooperation with the Trakia Industrial Zone. We maintain close contact with its management and adopt management models from them, as it is the most successful example of public-private partnership in Southern Bulgaria," said Pencho Milkov.

Among the main advantages for the development of business in Ruse and the region are the geographical location and proximity to the Romanian capital Bucharest, the University of Ruse as an educational center for the entire Danube region and the introduction of a number of transparency measures, which the municipal management implements after meetings initiated by it and recommendations of 4 of the largest anti-corruption organizations in the world.

The Japanese ambassador also raised the issue of the construction of a second bridge between Bulgaria and Romania to Ruse and the financing with which it would be implemented. Milkov shared that the text of the agreement, with which the two sides agree to work on a third bridge, is not yet public. He and Hiroshi agreed that the large-scale project is of critical importance for Bulgaria and its implementation cannot be delayed.

The need for the creation and enforcement of national tourist routes by the Ministry of Tourism was also discussed, within the framework of which individual municipalities, together with businesses, provide individual tourist products.

At the end of the meeting, the mayor expressed his willingness to work for the deepening of bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Japan. In May, a business delegation is expected to arrive in our city from Osaka, and Milkov made a proposal to organize a business meeting with companies operating in the area, in which the ambassador himself and representatives of the Bulgarian-Japanese Economic Council of Constantsa will take part.
