In the Sports Hall "Academic" of the University of Ruse "Angel Kanchev" was held the third competition in robotics for children from III and IV grade. The event is organized by the Municipality of Ruse and is implemented jointly by lecturers and employees of the University of Ruse and the Center for Personal Development Support – Center for Student Technical and Scientific Creativity (CPDS-CSTSC-Ruse).
"In order for Ruse to become a high-tech city, it is necessary to work with children from an early age. That is why robotics and virtual reality and information technology related subjects are taught in all schools in the municipality, "said Deputy Mayor Encho Enchev. He added that it is extremely encouraging that almost 50 students from 15 schools in Ruse took part in the competition.
The event was attended by the Rector of the University of Ruse prof. Dr. Ing. Plamen Kangalov, the Chairman of the General Assembly of the university Acad. Hristo Beloev – Honorary Rector of the Ruse alma mater, the senior expert at the Regional Inspectorate of Education – Ruse Anelia Angelova, the Director of the Education and Culture Directorate in Ruse Municipality Tsvetoslav Dimitrov and the Director of the Center for Cultural Assistance – Ruse Velislav Yonchev.
The participants in the competition competed in three categories – "Light relay", "Line tracking" and "Robotans".
In this year's edition the different were the stands with student developments that showed how robotic systems and micro:bit controllers can be used to build solutions for building automation, to create systems for automated distribution of food, for drawing figures, etc. The robotics competition is a continuation of the educational STEM courses in robotics held by the university and the Center for Adaptation of Robotics with microcomputers micro:bit and micro:maqueen robotic platforms. The content of these training courses was developed by lecturers from the Telecommunications Department of the University of Ruse "Angel Kanchev" and is consistent with the knowledge and capabilities of students from 3rd and 4th grade.
The first place deservedly went to the students from the robotics team of CSTSC, the teams of "Vasil Levski" Secondary School and "Vasil Aprilov" Primary School ranked second, and third place went to Vazrazhdane Secondary School and Lyuben Karavelov Primary School. The prizes were provided by the Municipality of Ruse and the sponsors of the event - Huawei Technologies Bulgaria, Siemens and Prosveta Sofia Publishing House.
