The Mayor of Ruse Municipality Pencho Milkov held a meeting with the CEO of Siemens for Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Ukraine, Dr. Eng. Boryana Manolova, who is also the Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Ruse “Angel Kanchev”. The meeting was also attended by the Honorary Rector and Chairman of the General Assembly of the University, Acad. Hristo Beloev and representatives of the regional management of Siemens Bulgaria.
During the talks, opportunities for deepening the partnership between the Municipality of Ruse, the University of Ruse and Siemens in the field of education, technology and sustainable development of the urban environment were discussed. The meeting began with a discussion of the new creative space opened in the higher education institution – Siemens Corner, part of the company’s initiative to create academic zones for the exchange of ideas and technological cooperation in universities.
Mayor Milkov presented to the Siemens management the progress of Ruse in robotics and STEM education in schools, emphasizing that this year the fourth municipal robotics competition for 3rd and 4th grade students and the first for children from the preparatory groups in kindergartens was held in Ruse. “Investment in technological education is an investment in the future of our city,” emphasized Mayor Milkov.
During the meeting, he also presented the development of the municipal video surveillance system, which already includes over 1,600 cameras. Milkov indicated that options for expanding the system and integrating signals from private cameras on a voluntary basis are being discussed, in order to increase the security of the residents of Ruse.
Dr. Boryana Manolova welcomed the efforts of the Municipality and the University of Ruse to develop technological culture and create conditions for practical training. She expressed confidence that Ruse has the potential to become one of the regional centers for innovation and digitalization.
Mayor Milkov also presented to the Siemens Bulgaria team the idea developed by the Ruschuk Association for the creation of an open-air exhibition "The Lights of the City", dedicated to the history of electricity supply in Ruse. The project envisages the restoration of an authentic Siemens electrical transformer from the beginning of the 20th century, which will be transformed into an open-air micromuseum with exhibits, archival materials and historical facts. The exhibition is planned to be located on Pridunavski Blvd., near the original location of the transformer.
Acad. Hristo Beloev, for his part, expressed confidence that the meeting will give new impetus to accelerating joint actions between the University of Ruse, the Municipality of Ruse and Siemens in the direction of expanding the partnership, and in academic terms - also applied training.
At the end of the meeting, Mayor Milkov stated that the local administration will continue to support initiatives aimed at cooperation between education, business and local authorities, in the interest of the development of the city and young people.
