Mayor Pencho Milkov visited Lipnik Forest Park today to personally get acquainted with the activities of the last stage of active preparation for one of the most spectacular sporting events of the year – the World Dragon Boat Championships. The competition will be held from September 18 to 21 on the lake in the village of Nikolovo and will bring together competitors from all over the world, turning Ruse into an international sports scene.
“The area around the lake in Nikolovo is transforming before our eyes. What we are doing is not just for the upcoming competition – it is an investment in the future of Lipnik Forest Park as one of the most beautiful and fulfilling places for sports and recreation in Northern Bulgaria. I am grateful to the three rowing clubs in Ruse, the fishing community and all the employees and partners who work daily to make this transformation happen. After the World Championships, we will leave the people of Ruse with a permanently renovated space,” said Pencho Milkov. He was accompanied by his deputies Borislav Rachev and Nikola Lazarov, as well as the director of the ME “Sports Properties” Lachezar Ivanov, who introduced him to what has been done so far.
The renovation covers all key points in the area – from the rowing base and the hostel, through the infrastructure around the lake, to the new park and decorative areas. The sanitary facilities and halls where the boats are stored have been completely renovated, and the facade of the building is about to be painted thematically. The renovated hostel now offers modern conditions and will be used to accommodate young rowers from all over the country, thus placing Ruse among the leading rowing centers in Bulgaria.
In accordance with the requirements of the International Canoe Federation, the reeds around the lake are being removed in stages to ensure the necessary visibility and safety for the participants. The technical equipment of the course has also been secured, which will contribute to precision in the start and reporting of the results. Intensive renovation activities are underway in the park area, where the opening and awarding ceremonies of the winners will be held. The new pedestrian bridge will be part of the course, and all racing boats will approach the start by passing under it. The idea is to provide an opportunity to shoot impressive footage that will promote Ruse worldwide.
Repairs are also being carried out on the judge's tower, which must meet international standards. In parallel, the road surface around the lake is being renovated, and the main alley, which runs parallel to the water basin, will be equipped with new lighting, providing comfort for visitors who will watch the competitions.
