Ruse is the first Bulgarian city to establish links with the Bulgarian community in this region

"One of the largest Bulgarian diasporas - over 500 families with Bulgarian roots - lives in the Argentinian city of Beriso. By signing a twinning agreement with Ruse, guided by the historical, friendly and cultural ties, we will give a new impetus to the future cooperation between the two settlements. We are honoured to become the first Bulgarian city to reach out to the Bulgarian community in this region. " With these words Mayor Pencho Milkov welcomed his colleague from Beriso Fabian Calardi at a meeting held via videoconference.

Especially for the signing of the agreement in Ruse arrived the Ambassador of Argentina to Bulgaria H. E. Alfredo Nestor Atanasoff. The online meeting was also attended by the Bulgarian deputy mayors Zlatomira Stefanova, Dimitar Nedev and Encho Enchev, as well as the director of the International Policies, Economic Activities and Analyses Directorate Ivaylo Kadishev.

The mayor of Beriso, Fabian Cagliardi, presented his team and talked about the development of the city in recent years, with the participation of our ambassador to Argentina, Stoyan Mihaylov.

For his part, Argentine Ambassador Atanasoff thanked the local administration and the municipal councillors for their decision to formalise the good relations over the years at regional and national level by signing the document. It was unanimously described as "historic". According to the diplomat, the two cities are also very similar in terms of their multicultural development by hosting different ethnic groups. He briefly talked about his Bulgarian roots, which date back to the beginning of the 20th century, when his ancestors settled in Argentina and specifically in Berizo during the great wave of emigrants at that time.

In the course of the talks, it was discussed to conduct joint initiatives between the two cities in order to prepare successful projects in the fields of tourism, culture, social development, trade and economy, as well as other issues of common interest that will benefit both communities. Mayor Pencho Milkov presented to the Argentine Ambassador and the Mayor of Beriso the potential and economic development of the region, as well as the rich cultural and historical heritage and events from the cultural and sports calendar of the city.
We would like to remind you that the invitation for the conclusion of the agreement was made by the Ambassador of Argentina to Bulgaria H. E. Alfredo Atanasoff, and the City Council voted in October for the Mayor of Ruse to sign it.
The Argentine city of Beriso is located in the province of Buenos Aires. The hundreds of families with Bulgarian roots living there have managed to keep the memories of their homeland alive through a number of meetings and initiatives, and their spiritual heritage has been maintained for decades by three organizations founded by Bulgarian emigrants. The Macedonian-Bulgarian Club, the ''Kiril and Methodii'' Society and the Mutual Aid Society united in 1955 and formed the Bulgarian Cultural Society "Ivan Vazov". This institution celebrates Bulgarian holidays and traditions and develops an active interaction with the Argentine-Bulgarian Foundation in Buenos Aires. A Bulgarian folk dance group "Sedyanka" was founded.
