Wednesday, 17 July 2024

The overhaul began a week ago and the activities are carried out without stopping traffic

The asphalt has been removed and the restrictive fences have been dismantled in the first section of the overhaul of the Danube Bridge near Ruse, which began on July 10, the Road Infrastructure Agency reports. The construction works started in a section with a length of about 200 m in the entrance lane to Bulgaria. The traffic in it is limited and the traffic passes in a regulated way in the exit lane in the direction of Romania, in which there is no work. At the moment, the leveling concrete is being removed to reach the panels.

The construction activities are carried out without stopping traffic and the facility will not be closed. The site is operated daily for 10-12 hours a day, during daylight hours. The work process is organized and carried out in such a way that the vehicles pass in stages in both directions in the lane in which there is no work. Currently, the traffic is regulated with signallers and border police officers and the passage of traffic is synchronized between the border authorities of Bulgaria and Romania.

During the overhaul of the facility, the maximum permissible width of passing vehicles is 2. 75 m, and the total weight is up to 60 tons. Oversized vehicles do not pass!

The route on the Bulgarian territory of the Danube Bridge, which will be repaired in the next two years, has a total length of 1,057 km. Since its commissioning 70 years ago - in 1954, no major repairs have been carried out so far. More than 22 years ago, the joints were strengthened, and in 2011 the waterproofing and asphalt pavement were replaced. The technical design for the repair of the facility provides for a complete replacement of the asphalt layers, panels, waterproofing, new restrictive systems, markings, etc.

The Road Infrastructure Agency apologizes to the drivers and citizens of the city of Ruse, through whose territory the transit traffic to the Danube Bridge passes, for the inconvenience caused. We understand that the construction works and the change in the traffic organization will create inconvenience for both citizens and drivers, but the undertaking of construction works is necessary to ensure safe travel on the bridge between Ruse and Giurgiu in the coming years.

To improve safety, the Road Infrastructure Agency works in constant coordination and close cooperation with the Border Police, the Customs Agency, the Executive Agency "Automobile Administration", the Municipality of Ruse and the Regional Administration of Ruse. The appeal to the drivers and residents of Ruse is to show understanding and patience, to drive carefully, at a reasonable speed, to strictly observe the traffic signals and not to undertake risky overtaking with which to endanger the safety and life of all travelers.

Up-to-date information on the temporary traffic organization and repair works can be found in the special section "Information on the repair of the Danube Bridge" on the website of the Road Infrastructure Agency. The Agency's team will provide regular updates on the repair of the facility and is available for additional questions and clarifications. Only in this way will the accurate, precise and correct information of all travelers be guaranteed.
