With a festive ceremony and the laying of wreaths in front of the Monument to those who died in the Serbo-Bulgarian War, the people of Ruse celebrated the 137th anniversary of the Unification of the Principality of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia.
Under the sounds of solemn marches performed by the Municipal Brass Band conducted by Dimcho Rubchev, the guard of honor welcomed the citizens.
The mayor of Ruse Municipality Pencho Milkov, regional governor Anatoli Stanev and their deputies, the chairman of the Municipal Council Ivo Pazardzhiev, representatives of political forces and students from Ruse schools paid their respects.
"137 years after the Unification of the two Bulgarian territories, there is much to be desired in terms of our unity. And let us not only today look at the example of the patriots before us and put the good of Bulgaria first. To be free, good, united and responsible for the future of the homeland. Our strength is in unity," Mayor Pencho Milkov said in his address to the people of Ruse.
The festive ceremony ended with a service by H.V.Pr. Metropolitan Naum of Ruse and priests from the Ruse Metropolis and laying of wreaths and flowers in front of the Monument to those who died in the Serbo-Bulgarian war.
