Ruse commemorates 140 years since victory in the Serbo-Bulgarian War

A commemorative ceremony of laying wreaths and flowers in front of the Monument to the Fallen in the Serbian-Bulgarian War took place in Ruse, followed by a round table and the opening of a thematic exhibition. The events were organized on the initiative of the Rodolyubie club, chaired by Major Evgeni Aleksiev, who is a member of the Regional Union of Reserve Officers and Sergeants, as well as with the assistance of the Regional Department of Education.

The official ceremony was attended by Mayor Pencho Milkov, Regional Governor Dragomir Draganov, Colonel Vasil Petrov - Head of the 1st Degree Military District - Ruse, Lieutenant Colonel Pavlin Iliev - Commander of Military Formation 32420, Colonel Veselin Dodev - Chairman of the RSOSZR - Ruse, the Chairman of the Regional Branch of "Tradition" in Ruse Martin Kalendzhiev, as well as students from Ruse schools. A little later, a round table with teachers and students was opened at the Military Club, dedicated to little-known facts and personalities related to the Unification and the war. The exhibition “Citizens of Ruse in Defense of the Unification and the Serbo-Bulgarian War”, prepared by the “Stefan Karadzha 2018” National Club, was also exhibited in the lobby.

In his welcome address, Mayor Pencho Milkov emphasized the role of the organizers in maintaining historical memory and patriotic values. He pointed out that with its long-standing activity, the “Rodolyubie” club has consistently fulfilled its mission – to preserve the past, make it close and understandable to young people and maintain a bridge between generations. In his words, the club’s initiatives show that patriotism can be shared and developed through knowledge, dedication and a sense of duty.

In his address, the regional governor Dragomir Draganov emphasized the strength of the national spirit in 1885. He noted that patriotism should be perceived as a modern need that encourages activity, courage and civic position, and that the victory in the Serbo-Bulgarian War brings Bulgaria self-confidence, international recognition and a lesson for generations.

The initiatives implemented in Ruse united students, teachers, historians, public figures and representatives of state institutions as a sign of respect for one of the brightest pages in Bulgarian history. They emphasized the place of Ruse residents in the defense of the Fatherland and the importance of historical knowledge for the formation of values ​​and civic responsibility.
