Ruse hosts a meeting of mayors from North-Eastern Bulgaria

A one-day working meeting between the mayors of the municipalities of Ruse, Varna, Shumen, Razgrad, Silistra and Targovishte was held today in Ruse. The event is an initiative of the mayor Pencho Milkov and aims to highlight the development of Northeastern Bulgaria at the national level.

"The North is key for the development of Bulgaria. Our municipalities have an exceptional potential for development, as well as being engines for the country's economy, after years of being put in the background. Today is an important day when we sit together at the same table to formulate our priorities and unite around them. I believe that united we have the great opportunity to successfully drive our European development. The Municipality of Ruse consistently works to improve the quality of services and the living environment. Many of our innovations are thanks to successfully implemented European projects. I am convinced that if we jointly and integratedly look for application opportunities in the next program period as well, we would have even greater success for the entire region. We see that the problems of one municipality actually turn out to be problems of all. Therefore, the key word in our work should be unity. In this way, we can bring the issues of the North to the fore before the state and find the right solutions", said the mayor of Ruse municipality Pencho Milkov.

The working meeting was attended by the Mayor of Varna Municipality Blagomir Kotsev and his deputy Hristo Rafailov, the Mayor of Shumen Municipality Prof. Hristo Hristov, accompanied by the Deputy Mayor for "Economic Development" Nikolay Kolev and the Deputy Mayor for "Health and Social Activities" Dr. Svetoslava Hainova, the Mayor of Razgrad Municipality Dobrin Dobrev with his deputy in charge of "Humanitarian Activities" Elka Nedelcheva, the Mayor of Silistra Municipality Alexander Sabanov with the Deputy Mayor for "Humanitarian Activities" Stiliyan Stoychev and the Mayor of Targovishte Municipality Dr. Darin Dimitrov.

During the talks, key issues for the development of all municipalities were discussed, including the construction of expressways and highways in order to improve connectivity with the rest of Bulgaria, as well as the development of smaller settlements in the municipalities.

The team of the Municipality of Ruse and the mayor Pencho Milkov showed the guests the video surveillance system in the city, which already has 1250 cameras, as well as the new trolleybuses with a modern system for counting and charging passengers.

The mayors agreed on common actions before the state on projects of importance for Northeastern Bulgaria.
