Public transport to be free on September 22

From September 16 to 22, the Municipality of Ruse will participate in European Mobility Week with a series of initiatives focused on sustainable travel, road safety, and an improved urban environment. The campaign includes activities for children, initiatives for young people, information campaigns, and events promoting walking, cycling, and public transport; this year, the event is held under the motto "Small steps. Big change. Together for a better city!"

European Mobility Week takes place annually from September 16 to 22, encouraging citizens to rethink how they get around the city and to choose more sustainable alternatives to private cars. In Ruse, these initiatives are being implemented as part of the LIFE22-IPC-BG-LIFE-SIP CLIMA-SUMP project—"Implementation of Municipal Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans for the Transition to a Climate-Neutral and Climate-Resilient Society"—with a focus on cleaner air, active mobility, public transport, and a safe urban environment.

The official opening of Mobility Week will take place on September 16 in front of the Courthouse in Ruse, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Visitors will be able to view information materials, participate in the "How Does Ruse Move?" survey (conducted jointly with the Youth Parliament), and join the "My City in Motion" initiative, which is aimed at the city's youngest residents. On September 17, children from the "Zora" Kindergarten will participate in the "Movement Is for Everyone" initiative. A demonstration featuring balance bikes and helmets, a "My First Bike" session, and activities introducing basic road safety rules have been prepared for them. All participants will also receive gifts.

On September 18, the "Snezhanka" Kindergarten will host the "My First Safe Journey" initiative. The children will take part in practical outdoor activities, games, and educational sessions focused on safe travel. Balance bikes, helmets, and other engaging materials have been provided for them.

Young people will be the focus of the "Youth in Motion" initiative, taking place on September 21 at Youth Park, starting at 4:00 PM. The program includes a children's workshop and informational materials, while the Youth Parliament will participate with bicycles as part of the "Youth in Action" project. The "How Does Ruse Move?" survey will also continue during the event, with the results being presented to the participants.

The culmination of European Mobility Week will be September 22—Car-Free Day. Initiatives aimed at pedestrians and public transport will be implemented in Ruse, and public transport services will be free of charge. The goal is to encourage more residents and visitors to choose walking, cycling, or public transport as an alternative to the car for at least one day.
