Ruse's new forest has grown with more than 2 thousand young trees

More than 2 thousand saplings of the honey-bearing species of field ash, white acacia and golden rain were planted at the old city landfill in a joint action of Ruse Municipality and "Co-Citizens" Association.

"One of the few initiatives where we see not only young trees being planted, but also real care for them in the coming months. This is a big responsibility and people need to be aware of it", said landscape architect Chana Loseva, who for the second year actively contributed to the New Forest of Ruse.

"The reclamation of the landfill provided for the planting of trees, but these have failed to take hold. Our goal right now is to build a real forest right here," said Mayor Pencho Milkov.

The reforestation is a continuation of last year's initiative, during which over 300 saplings were brought to life. During the warm days the volunteers took care of the trees, with the help of Parkstroy municipal enterprise for watering them. Thus 60% of the first saplings have taken hold and are now growing.

This year Forest. bg provided 11 times more planting material, which was mostly planted in a few hours by the dozens of citizen of Ruse who came to support the cause.

They were also provided with entertainment - dance, archery, with the support of SC "Jumbo 2006"- Ruse, as well as horseback riding by the Equestrian Club "Centavar - Ruse".

"Our long-term goal is to make a suburban park out of a place where there was waste," said the association's chairman Boyan Bocev.

"Besides, such initiatives bring people together - something our society needs immensely at this time," he adds.

The new forest of Ruse will continue to grow gradually, the organizers from Ruse Municipality and "Co-Citizens" are adamant.
