The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark, Jes Nilsen, was welcomed today by the Mayor of Ruse Municipality Pencho Milkov and Deputy Mayor Zlatomyra Stefanova, as part of the diplomat's familiarization tour around the country. He got acquainted with the work of the local leadership on a number of issues for the development of the municipality.
Mayor Milkov presented to Nielsen its policy of transparency of management and the introduction of anti-corruption measures. Among them are the conduct of public procurement entirely in an electronic environment, the provision of citizens' access to the administration's record-keeping system, frequent polls and public discussions.
"It is impressive how thousands of Ruse citizens and companies got involved in making proposals for the preparation of one of the most important documents for the local government - the Plan for Integrated Development of Ruse Municipality 2021 - 2027," said the mayor. According to him, their ideas will positively influence the development of the municipality in the coming years.
The weekly report on the activities of the Municipality of Ruse greatly impressed His Excellency Nielsen, as he promised to implement this good practice.
The green transition and the pioneering of Ruse with the project for the introduction of hydrogen production infrastructure was also a topic of the meeting. The initiative envisages the development of 20 buses and a pusher ship powered by hydrogen and is a joint activity of the Municipality of Ruse, Municipal Transport Ruse AD, Ruse University "Angel Kanchev", "Bulgarian River Navigation" AD, the Association of Danube Municipalities "Dunav" , the Bulgarian Association for Hydrogen, Fuel Cells and Energy Storage and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
The first diplomat of the Kingdom of Denmark talked about the environmental policy of his country and the so-called "National Hydrogen Strategy" (Power-to-X). The north's parliament has allocated 1.25 billion Danish kroner (161 million euros) for the "conversion" of electricity into gases or liquid synthetic fuels. The strategy envisages stimulating the production and consumption of green hydrogen in those sectors where it is difficult to ensure emission reductions using other technologies. It concerns shipping, aviation, heavy road transport and industry.
Ambassador Nielsen said that he is happy to be a guest of Little Vienna and will gladly visit the birthplace of the Nobel laureate for literature Elias Canetti, who spent his childhood years in Rsse.
