On September 11, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the 10th anniversary edition of the "Old Paper for a New Book" initiative, which has become a favorite of young and old, will be held on ''Feedom'' Square / in front of the Dunav Hotel. The event is organized by ECOPACK and the ''Greenwich'' Book Center with the assistance of the Ruse Municipality and the ''Luben Karavelov'' Regional Library.
This year's campaign started from Ruse. Two points will be set aside, with the idea being that each child brings an adult and at least 5kg of old paper for recycling. In return, he will receive a new children's book of his choice and gifts from the organizers. Each child who joins the cause will also receive a special edition of "Guardians of the Planet" - a book full of facts, activities and tips for protecting the environment.
For 9 years, nearly 55,828 children have participated in "Old paper for a new book" and, together with their parents, have handed in 297 tons of paper for recycling and received 65,770 books. In this way, 3,860 trees were saved from cutting down.
Ruse is the first city where "Old Paper for a New Book" has visited and has been among the record holders of the initiative for 6 years now - 13,634 children handed over 73 tons of old paper, saving 952 trees from being cut down. In return, the little eco-activists received more than 16,830 new books.
