Thursday, 19 September 2024

The book "Ruse - for the first time in Bulgaria" was presented in Valencia at the traditional international festival of photography and debate "ValenciaPhoto". The event took place at the Public Library "Pilar Faus", and one of its co-authors - Eng. Yovcho Stoyanov. He is also a co-author of many other books and exhibitions dedicated to the history of Ruse and the region of Ruse.

The presentation was attended by the director of the festival Nicholas Lawrence, the Consul General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Valencia Nadia Krasteva, Ilian Iliev - Head of the Consular Section, the Consul of Lithuania Alexander Kudaba, the Director of the Library Roma Française, as well as representatives of the local Bulgarian community.

"This book in Europe is not at all easy to present. The average European was born and lives in Europe itself. For him, it is a given, and he cannot understand the aspiration of our predecessors to Europeanize and join the civilized peoples. Only those who know well the history of the Balkan countries, which for centuries have been sinking into backwardness, hopelessness, lack of elementary human rights, without their own intelligentsia and statehood, can understand the frantic desire of our peoples for freedom, and hence for development - cultural, educational, economic and industrial development, which will lead to a better life for the people," noted at the beginning of the presentation of the book Eng. Yovcho Stoyanov. He made a brief historical overview of the development of Ruse over the past 180 years, pointing out the different stages of economic, social and cultural growth.

At the end of his presentation, he said that the book will show the young generation what difficulties our ancestors went through, but they did not give up in their aspirations to develop, modernize and Europeanize their country. "It can serve as an example to follow nowadays, as the world is developing dynamically and we should not lag behind the common achievements of humanity," said Eng. Das. He added that the publication was printed on the initiative of the Mayor of Ruse Municipality Pencho Milkov in 2023 in partnership with the Regional History Museum, the State Archives and the Regional Library "Lyuben Karavelov". The authors' team also includes Stoyan Stoyanov - Komitski, eng. Rumen Kuzov and Khachik Lebikyan. The editor is the Rousse historian and journalist deputy. Ass. Zhivodar Dushkov. The events and facts in the book cover the period from 1843 to the present day. The chronologically arranged events are richly illustrated, and some of the photos and documents are published for the first time. The published texts have been translated into English so that the edition can be used by foreigners. The co-author of the book did not fail to thank the consultant Boyan Draganov and the collectors Ilian Iliev and Dieter Hess for their cooperation and help.

The Consulate General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Valencia participated in the festival with one more event. Today, a large photographic exhibition on the theme "From Valencia to the World" will be opened at the El Almudin Palace Museum, which aims to show the similarities between different countries and cultures. With the assistance of the Consulate, our country will be represented by the photographic exhibition "Directions" of the State Cultural Institute to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The exhibition includes images taken by photography enthusiasts, without age and professional experience restrictions, reflecting the themes of globalization, identity, intercultural dialogue and tolerance between different nations.

The "ValenciaPhoto" festival started on September 11 and will last until September 22. It is designed for amateurs and professionals who show customs, portraits and landscapes from different countries. The forum has been held for 23 years, registering over 20,000 visitors last year.
