The "Danube 24h Run" ultramarathon ended with a top world achievement

Today at the City Stadium in Ruse, the ultramarathon "Danube 24 Hours Run" finished. It started yesterday and was opened by the deputy mayor Zlatomyra Stefanova. More than 80 participants from 5 countries - Bulgaria, Romania, France, Ireland and Ukraine - took part in the competition. The organizers of the sports forum are the ultramarathoner Vihren Ivanov and the "Danube" Sports and Athletics Club with the support of the Ruse Municipality.

"Ruse is proud to welcome such prepared athletes, who with such great desire overcame themselves and surpassed their previous results," said the mayor, Pencho Milkov, awarding the winners. He expressed his gratitude for the organization of the event and the many participants and volunteers who sympathized with him.

The ultramarathon is the first for Bulgaria to be held on a track. The disciplines in which the athletes competed were individually 6, 12 and 24 hours. There were 50km, 100km and 100 mile races, as well as a three-man 2-hour relay.

A peak achievement was also achieved during the ultramarathon – Andrey Gabriel Aileney ran 268 km. and 95 m within 24 hours, which is second in the world for the year. Lilia Nikolova set a national record for women by running 115,200 km in 12 hours. A special award was also given to the three Ruse doyens - Ivan Grozev, 77, Mikhail Terziev, 75, and Milen Masov, 62, who made a relay run in the "50 +" category and are well known among Ruse runners.
