The English High School celebrated its 60th anniversary with a concert-performance at the Dohodno zdanie

The English High School celebrated its 60th anniversary with a festive programme that lasted throughout the day. The culmination of the celebration was in the Great Hall of the Dohodno zdanie, where a two-hour concert-performance was held.

The official guests of the event were the Mayor Pencho Milkov, the Deputy Mayors Zlatomira Stefanova and Dimitar Nedev, the Regional Governor Anatoly Stanev, the Head of RDE-Ruse Dr. Rositsa Georgieva and the Deputy Rector of RU "Angel Kanchev" Assoc.Prof. Desislava Atanasova. Hundreds of current and former teachers and alumni of the school, as well as three of the five former directors of AEG "Geo Milev" were present in the hall.

Congratulatory addresses were sent by the Minister of Education and Science Sasho Penev, the President of the Syndicate of Bulgarian Teachers Yanka Takeva, representatives of local and state institutions.

"Today's celebration is an extremely emotional moment not only for the English High School, but also for our city, because to achieve this level of education and to maintain it over the years with tireless work and perseverance is a truly remarkable achievement," Mayor Pencho Milkov addressed the attendees. "The English High School has always been an institution that has nurtured in its students freethinking and creativity, and in this way has strengthened in them that indomitable spirit that drives the progress of any society," emphasized Milkov.

Welcoming speeches to the attendees and the Director of AEG "Geo Milev" Margarita Yanakieva were also made by the Regional Governor Anatoly Stanev, the Head of RDE - Ruse Dr. Rositsa Georgieva and the Deputy Rector of RU "Angel Kanchev" Assoc.Prof. Desislava Atanasova.

The celebratory concert "The Spirit of the Times" offered attendees exciting performances by the pop group "Kukeri", established in 1966 at the English High School, classical dances, folk songs, and rock performances by current and former alumni of the school.

Earlier in the day, Mayor Pencho Milkov attended some of the events included in the program of the celebration, which was held on the school grounds. He talked to the English High School's first graduates, and later awarded students for their work in the "The Many-Faced Geo" competition.
