The Municipality Offers Two Performances of Under the Yoke to the Citizens of Ruse

The Municipality of Ruse will honor Bulgaria’s National Day on March 3rd with a series of events. The main highlight of this year’s program is an initiative by Vasil Levski Secondary School, supported by the local administration.

The celebrations will begin with an official ceremony at the Monument of Liberty at 10:30 AM, where an honorary guard will be assembled, as per tradition. Priests from the Ruse Metropolis will conduct a memorial service for those who died in the struggle for liberation, as well as a thanksgiving prayer for the freedom achieved.

At the end of the ceremony, organizations and institutions wishing to lay wreaths can do so after submitting a request in advance via email at pr@mayor-ruse.bg.

At 12:00 PM, the initiative Three Colors, One Flag – Yesterday, Today, Forever will begin at the Ruse quay. Students from Vasil Levski Secondary School will lead a festive procession carrying a specially crafted national tricolor flag, measuring 900 meters in length.

The flag will be unfurled from the Winding Bridge eastward along the riverside promenade. For this purpose, Pridunavski Boulevard will be partially closed during the event, and designated areas will be available for citizens to observe the celebration.

After the procession, a traditional folk dance gathering (horoteka) will take place near the Winding Bridge, organized by the Rodolyubets Folklore Dance Club. Everyone passionate about Bulgarian folk dances is welcome to join.

A celebratory event will also take place in the Dolapite neighborhood. The festive procession there will begin at 2:00 PM from the start of Stremlenie Street, with participants carrying a 60-meter-long tricolor flag. The final destination will be the monument dedicated to local residents who perished in the Balkan War and World War I, located in the courtyard of the Archangel Michael Church. Organizers encourage attendees to wear traditional Bulgarian folk costumes.

The National Day celebrations will continue at the Grand Hall of the Dohodno Zdanie building. The Municipality of Ruse is offering citizens and guests of the city two performances of the play Under the Yoke by the Stoyan Bachvarov Drama Theatre – at 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Admission is free.

The play, based on the novel by Ivan Vazov, is directed by Bina Haralampieva, with a creative team that includes Yuri Dachev (dramaturgy), Svila Velichkova (set and costume design), Asen Avramov (composer), and Angel Zhechev (photography). The cast features a brilliant ensemble of actors, and the production has been highly acclaimed across the country.
