Victor Lyubenov from Ruse, two-time vice world champion in motorised water-sports, was awarded by the mayor Pencho Milkov.
"Your sport is extremely attractive, but unfortunately still little known among the people, which makes the achievements of Bulgarian athletes underestimated," the mayor said.
Victor is 21 years old and has been training since he was 11. It competes in the so-called "royal class" Formula 125, F-125, where it develops between 130 and 150 km/h in the water.
The athlete has not missed a World or European Championship for 4 years. Bulgarian competitions are organized in 3 to 5 rounds, and Viktor Lyubenov has held the championship for 6 years and is the national champion of the country.
In 2019 he took 3rd place at the World Championships in Boretto, Italy, and in 2018 and 2020 he was 4th in the final standings in competition with more than 20 athletes from 12 countries.
In the last two years, Lyubenov managed to reach the second place at the World Championships, and in 2022 the difference with the first is only 1 point.
In Jedovnice, Czech Republic, he was third and in Mora, Sweden, he was first. Victor was also voted the youngest successful athlete in the entire history of the sport by the World Federation (UIM).
