The cross-border cooperation between Ruse and Giurgiu was the subject of the conversation between the mayor of Ruse Municipality Pencho Milkov, the mayor of Giurgiu Andrian Angelescu and the ambassador of Bulgaria in Bucharest Radko Vlaikov.
One of the main topics was the smoldering barge, which remains for days on the Romanian coast, as well as the continuous burning of stubble in Romania, bringing unpleasant smells, soot and pollution to Ruse every summer. Although the introduction of a law banning such burning is far beyond Mayor Angelescu's authority, he is committed to helping to resolve the problem more quickly. Milkov explained that he plans to install a thermal camera in Ruse, the data of which can be sent to the Municipality of Giurgiu, in order to prevent the occurrence of natural fires.
The three also discussed the possibilities for rapprochement between the neighboring countries by improving the current infrastructure, as well as the construction of bridges over the Danube River.
"When we talk about the construction of new facilities between the two neighbors, the second bridge between Ruse and Giurgiu is always a priority," emphasized Ambassador Radko Vlaikov. He added that after the Bulgarian state carried out a partial repair of the pavement of the Danube Bridge in June, this October the stability of the structure will also be improved.
They also visited the terminals on the Bulgarian and Romanian sides, where the ferry connection between the two cities is expected to be restored. In Romania, the operator will be a private company, while in Bulgaria the Ministry of Transport and Communications has declared readiness with employees and equipment with office equipment.
"The Ruse ferry is located in the city itself, and its mode of operation must be in full sync with the heavy cargo flows, so that trucks are not allowed to wait on Tutrakan Blvd.," Pencho Milkov was emphatic.
At the end of the meeting, the Bulgarian ambassador stressed that the cooperation between Ruse and Giurgiu will always be an example for other regions and shared his intention to organize a large general meeting in which all mayors, chairmen of municipal councils and regional governors of all populated areas would take an active part places on both sides of the Danube.
