The operator of Ruse Airport announced significant progress in the implementation of contractual commitments

Thursday, 25 April 2024

At today's meeting of the Municipal Council, Hristo Krusharski, a partner in the "Airport Ruse" company, announced details of the implementation of the contractual commitments made at the end of February 2023. 14 of the 15 points that the company committed to in the contract have been completed . The activities for the implementation of the overall General Plan of "Rousse Airport" remain to be completed, which will allow the airport to be used as a civil one. This is expected to happen in August.

According to Krusharski, it is now possible for planes to take off and land without passing through the terminal, where there are still finishing works on the equipment. It will be reconstructed, with x-rays and specialist equipment to be purchased to meet the requirements. The activities will be carried out after the decision of the Municipal Council.

"We are interested in developing Ruse Airport, for which we have created an investment program, including the construction of several hangars for the repair and maintenance of aircraft that will be serviced here," Krusharski emphasized and added: "Ruse Airport is already an airport." It is envisaged that the runway will be extended by over half a kilometer to allow the landing of larger aircraft as well as cargo flights. "Ruse Airport" is in the process of negotiations with the Municipality of Ivanovo, which manages the property behind the airport, and this will allow the future expansion of the field. A staff of over 200 people will be required to maintain and service the new facilities. Krusharski urged the municipal councilors to support the granting of a concession to build the additional premises, as various investors have already proposed the construction of a base for aircraft maintenance and flight crew training.

"Step by step, our dream of civil flights from and to Ruse Airport is being fulfilled. Our confidence is that the company has the strength and capabilities to do so, despite the skepticism it faces," said Mayor Pencho Milkov. He noted that the joint work of the municipalities of Ruse and Ivanovo will lead to an economic boom for the region.

We remind you that at the end of February, the General Directorate "Civil Aviation Administration" (DG GVA) issued to "Ruse Airport" a certificate of operational suitability of a civil airport according to the Law on Civil Aviation.
