The provocative world of Jean Jeunet comes to life in Ruse

Tuesday, 02 June 2026

On June 11 /Thursday/ at 7 p.m. in the Chamber Hall of the Sava Ognyanov Drama Theater, the Ruse audience will have the opportunity to watch the guest performance "The Maids" by Jean Jeunet at Yalta Art Room. The play is free for pensioners, people with limited mobility and people with special needs, and prior registration at the theater box office is required.

The production is directed by Kristina Belomorska based on the translation by Valentin Marinov - Pelo. The scenography and costumes are by Nikol Trendafilova, the music is composed by David Kokonchev, and the video environment is created by Ventsislav Todorov. The audience will see Adelina Zhelyazkova, Zhana Rasheva and Eli Koleva in the roles.

"The Maids" is one of the most emblematic works of the French playwright Jean Jeunet - a text that continues to excite with its psychological depth and uncompromising view of human nature. The performance explores the themes of power and submission, loneliness, eroticism, destructive human impulses and the painful pursuit of self-affirmation.

Through the complex relationships between the heroines, the production raises questions about the boundaries between reality and play, between personality and its masks, between reason and madness. This is a stage journey into the labyrinth of the human soul, where roles are constantly shifting, and the truth remains elusive.

After the end of the performance, the audience will have the opportunity to join in a discussion with the creative team and share their impressions of the performance.

The visit to Ruse is part of the national tour "The Handmaids - Run Through", which is realized with the financial support of the National Fund "Culture" under the "Distribution" program 2025/2026, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Centerside Tattoo Collective.
