The traditional throwing of the cross into the waters of the Danube River, will welcome the Epiphany in Ruse

On January 6, on the occasion of the great Christian holiday of the Epiphany, the Holy Metropolis of Ruse organized the traditional water festival.
The celebration will begin at 11 a.m. in front of the Holy Trinity Cathedral, where priests from all Ruse churches, officials and laymen will gather. The lithium procession will start from there, which will be built on the pontoon under the Riga hotel. Under the sounds of marches performed by the Municipal Brass Band, Metropolitan Naum of Ruse will perform a solemn water-consecration and bless the battle flags of the honorary company of the Ruse Garrison.
From 11:30 a.m. there will be the traditional throwing of the cross into the waters of the Danube River. This year, 15 men will be able to participate in the competition, and the winner of the cross will receive a cash prize from the mayor of Ruse Municipality, Pencho Milkov. According to popular belief, whoever takes the crucifix out of the water will be healthy throughout the year.
Those wishing to take part in the ritual can register their participation in the Holy Trinity Cathedral on January 4 /Wednesday/ from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on January 5 /Thursday/ from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For the safety and health of the participants, a medical team from "Medika" and volunteers from BRC - Ruse will be provided, who will perform on-site examinations an hour before the start of the ritual. There will also be an alcohol test, and those who have consumed alcoholic beverages will not be allowed to participate in the race.
Teams from the Office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs - Ruse, the "KOORS" police station and the newly formed Municipal Police will monitor order during the ceremony.
