The University of Ruse has celebrated 10 years since the establishment of the "Financial Mathematics" specialty

10 years since the foundation of the specialty "Financial Mathematics" at the Department of "Applied Mathematics and Statistics" of the University of Ruse were celebrated today. Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Pekanov was also present at the event in Ruse, who gave a lecture to the students after the ceremony.

"The specialty is valuable for Bulgaria, because it creates competent personnel occupying key positions in the private and public sector, not only in Bulgaria and Europe," noted Pekanov. He emphasized that the development of this specialty, which is unique to our country, is proof of the implementation of European educational standards in our country.

The mayor of Ruse, Pencho Milkov, congratulated the head of the department, Assoc. Dr. Iliyana Raeva, and the students and teachers present.

"We work excellently with the University of Ruse and strive in our administration to use the scientific capacity that you all create," he said.

Regional Governor Anatoli Stanev shared that the University of Ruse is developing continuously and another proof of its innovation is precisely the inclusion of financial mathematics in the palette of educational opportunities.

For the creation and development of the specialty, Prof. Velizar Pavlov received plaques from the Rector Academician Hristo Beloev and the Mayor Pencho Milkov.

The specialty "Financial Mathematics" at the University of Rousse was created in 2013 according to the British model and to this day it is unique in Bulgaria. The curriculum has been compiled in accordance with the requirements and demand in the practice of finance, insurance, social work and logistics. The training is carried out by a team of experienced specialists in leading companies and young scientists with experience in the financial sector.

Main support in opening the department was received from local and state institutions, a number of banking and insurance companies. They assess financial mathematics training as strategic for the financial and insurance sector in the country and the region, which needs well-prepared personnel.

To this day, the specialty develops on the basis of valuable partnerships with the institutions, the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics at the BAS, private companies and a number of Ruse schools and European universities.
