The two-day volleyball tournament "For the Mayor's Cup" in Ruse brought together women's and men's teams from the Danube city and the country over the weekend. The event, which was held in the "Yalta" hall, was under the patronage of the mayor of the Ruse municipality and became a celebration of sports and young talents.
Pencho Milkov opened the men's competition on Sunday, congratulating the competitors and their coaches, and stressed the importance of such events: "Ruse is a city with sports traditions and volleyball is part of this history. This tournament shows that we have energy, spirit and young people who can walk the path of success. I thank the team of the volleyball club "Lyubo Ganev - Avtosvyat" for their perseverance and dedication in building a new generation of competitors who will proudly bear the name of Ruse."
The president and senior coach of the club Sasho Todorov said that the tournament is an important test of the form of the players, and the hosting of Ruse is proof that quality volleyball is played here. As his faithful assistants in working with the team, assistant coaches Hristo Kirev and Milena Boteva stand out, who contribute to the preparation and development of young players.
On the first day of the tournament, the women's teams of the VC "Lyubo Ganev - Avtosvyat", "Spartak"-Varna and "DKS Varna" competed, and on the second - the men's teams of "Lyubo Ganev - Avtosvyat", "University of Ruse" and "Khan Asparuh"-Isperikh. In the women's competition on Saturday, the players of senior coach Sasho Todorov won first place, as the team's participation was its debut in front of the Ruse audience, led by captain Milena Boteva. Second place was taken by "Spartak", and third - "DKS Varna".
On Sunday, the winners in the men's category were the competitors of the VC "Lyubo Ganev - Avtosvyat" with two victories, the second place was for "University of Ruse", and the guests from "Khan Asparuh"-Isperikh took the third place.
The matches took place in a competitive and sportsmanlike spirit, and the award ceremony at the end of the two days distinguished the best teams and competitors.
