Four Balkan championship titles were won by the competitors of the Ruse Sports Club at the Balkan Shinkyokushin Karate Championship, which was held today at the Arena Ruse hall. The Ruse residents won a total of 11 medals in competition with over 300 karatekas from Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey and Croatia.
The gold medals in the under-14 group were won by Nikol Belcheva and Daniel Erdinch. Elitsa Stiliyanova took the under-16 title, and Martin Peev – under-18. The championship runners-up are Svetlomira Trendafilova, Kristiyan Lazarov and Kiril Georgiev in the under-14 group. Bronze medals were awarded to Nikolay Mirchev under-14, Iva Georgieva and Alexander Kosev under-16. All prize places were achieved in the kumite discipline. In the kata discipline, Alexander Kosev again won the bronze medal.
In the team standings, SC “Ruse” is in third place among the 50 participating clubs from the five countries. The next competition in which a club graduate will participate is the European Championship in Debrecen, Hungary, which will be held on September 27. Venelin Mirchev, who is 13 years old, will participate in the matches there. The coach of the club’s competitors is Sensei Rumen Kalinov, who also works with the children at the School Sports School.
The ceremony for awarding the winners of the championship was attended by Deputy Mayor Borislav Rachev and the Director of ME “Sports Properties” Lachezar Ivanov, who presented the medals and cups to those who qualified for the prize places.
