10 benches with interesting facts about the Danube were donated today by Kaufland Bulgaria to Ruse Municipality. The initiative is part of the Schwarz Group's major campaign against plastic pollution in the river "Together for Cleaner Rivers".
"I am grateful for the donation, because with it you raise the issue of the protection of one of the symbols of our city - the Danube. We chose to place the benches on the favourite pier of the people of Ruse because this way the message will reach more people", said the Deputy Mayor Encho Enchev at the official presentation of the donation.
"It is important to focus attention on issues that are socially important to people. Only in this way can we achieve a change in the way of thinking and living", said the Head of Sales for Northern Bulgaria of the largest retail chain in Bulgaria Georgi Yanev. The donation is a continuation of the company's initiative to clean up the riverbank.
The action, which involved the chain's employees and their families, took place at the beginning of September along the Danube near the town of Marten and as part of the company's Reset Plastic strategy.
The donated benches are located on the promenade of the pier in Ruse, between pontoons 10 and 11. From them you can learn that 1000 tons of plastic waste fall into the sea through the Danube every year, the river is one of the most endangered rivers in the world, it is home to 65 species of fish and over 320 species of birds in its lower reaches and many other curious but also alarming facts.
