800 young singers and instrumentalists will participate in the National Competition for Folk Music "Danube Nightingales"

On 9 and 10 March /Saturday and Sunday/ in the Dohodno zdanie, the Municipality of Ruse and the Municipal Children's Center for Culture and Art organize the XVI edition of "Danube Nightingales" - the national folklore competition for performers of folk music - singers and instrumentalists. More than 800 children and young people from all over the country will show their talent and love for Bulgarian folklore.

Participants will be divided into four sections:

I - Folk singing-individual performers;

II – Instrumentalists-individual performers;

III – Chamber vocal and instrumental groups;

IV – Choral groups, orchestras and ensembles.

The competition "Danube Nightingales" is included in the National Calendar of the Ministry of Culture, and for the seventh year it has been present in the National Program of Measures for the Protection of Gifted Children.

This allows individual performers from the III age group (VIII-XII grade), ranked first, second and third, to be stimulated with a 12-month scholarship. Children from the II age group (V-VII grade), ranked in the top 3 places, according to the program can apply to the Ministry of Culture to receive targeted financial aid to attend a master class.

Chairman of the professional jury will again be Acad. Milcho Vasilev from the Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts in Plovdiv. In the jury will be the young folk singer Petya Paneva. In addition to the evaluation of the participants, she will delight the audience with her performances during the gala concert to award the awarded performers.

Due to the large number of participants, the National Competition "Danube Nightingales" will be held simultaneously in three halls – the Great Hall and the Chamber Hall of the Profitable Building, as well as the Plenary Hall in the Municipality of Ruse.

Program of the competition:

March 9 /Saturday/:

12:00 p. m. Opening – Great  Hall in the Dohodno Zdanie

12:30 p. m. Start of the competition – Great Hall and Chamber Hall in the Dohodno Zdanie and Plenary Hall of Ruse Municipality

March 10 /Sunday/:

9:00 a. m. Competition part – Great Hall and Chamber Hall and Plenary Hall of Ruse Municipality

6 p. m. Gala concert and awarding of the awarded performers with the special participation of the folk singer Petya Paneva – Great Hall of the Dohodno Zdanie

The entire competition program, as well as the gala concert, will be free of charge.
