Athletes from 6 countries competed at the ''Mladost'' tournament in Ruse

Sunday, 14 May 2023

The 11th edition of the traditional athletics tournament "Mladost" took place at the City Stadium in Ruse. Athletes from 6 countries - Bulgaria, Georgia, North Macedonia, Romania, Moldova and Hungary competed in the event. The event is organized by the Sports Athletics Club "Dunav" and is supported by the Ruse Municipality.

"The energy and the desire to win that you show today at the stadium are an inspiring example for many athletes and will stimulate them in conquering new sporting peaks," Deputy Mayor Zlatomira Stefanova addressed the participants. She wished the athletes to explore Ruse and to enjoy the 18th Tourism Exhibition "Weekend Tourism" as well as the Festival of Tourist Entertainment and Animation.
Traditionally the tournament gathers the strongest athletes of Bulgaria and the Balkans, and our city was represented by 15 athletes of Sports Athletics Club "Dunav". The boys and girls competed in 17 disciplines, some of which were running, long jump, high jump, shepherd's jump, shot put, javelin throw and others.

The high competition in the tournament is the reason for the setting of many records, as only last year in Ruse records were registered in the high jump, 100 m and 400 m hurdles.

During this year's edition of the tournament, the athlete of Sports Athletics Club "Botev - Plovdiv" achieved the best achievement in Europe for 2023, running 100 m in 11. 80 seconds. The Ruse athletes of Sports Athletics Club  "Dunav" Rosina Nikolova and Stanimir Yordanov performed brilliantly, grabbing the first places in the 800 m run and javelin throw respectively.

The opening of the tournament was also attended by the deputy regional governor Detelina Acheva, the director of the Sports School "Major Atanas Uzunov" Evgeni Nedev, the regional representative of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Eleonora Gorbanova and the organizing director of the tournament, honorary citizen of Ruse and Olympic medalist Anelia Nuneva.
