The first kindergartens in Ruse, whose facades delight children with painted graffiti, are "Joy", "Snow White" and "Detelina". The artistic images were created by a group of graffiti artists from Varna, who painted favorite plots and characters on the walls of the kindergartens. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs welcome the children in the eponymous kindergarten "Snow White". According to the artists, the most challenging building to paint is the building of kindergarten "Joy", as it has many windows, cracks and electrical boxes. These shapes give depth to the drawing and interesting effects for the viewers. The walls depict happy children having fun - reading, going on a picnic, fishing in the Danube, etc. Most of the drawings are in a cartoon style, no dark colors or black were used, and this gives the buildings a fresh and cheerful look.
The artists paint mainly with sprays, but also with brushes and rollers. The paints have a hardener, and the drawings are additionally varnished to seal them and remain in time. In this way, they will preserve the bright colors and create the atmosphere inherent in children's consciousness and imagination.
The initiative for the graffiti in kindergartens is the Ruse Municipality, but they themselves conclude a contract with the contractors and choose the projects to be implemented on their buildings, so that they delight and predispose the children.
"It has been proven that this environment is closer to the family one and that is why the Municipality encourages such initiatives," said Mayor Pencho Milkov. "The project not only contributes to a more welcoming environment, but also stimulates children's imagination and creativity. The painted facades combine beauty and functionality, emphasizing the mission of the kindergarten to be a place for development, fun and learning,” Milkov emphasized and added that the Municipality will continue to improve urban spaces with various projects. “Professionally made graffiti brings the aesthetics of modern art and replaces all the scribbles on the walls and hooliganism on the facades of our buildings. The images motivate citizens to protect what the artists have created and instill a taste for the valuable works of artists. Our city is becoming much more beautiful and modern with the renovated urban environment,” the mayor believes.
Two more kindergartens in Ruse are due to be renovated – “Dawn” and “Sun”, both of which will have completely renovated facades. It is planned to offer other kindergartens for refreshment.
The breakthrough in the “Rodina” district will also be renovated with graffiti. There, the group of artists is painting on three walls. The theme of one is the tribute to the great personalities of Bulgarian history who are connected with Ruse, and therefore the portraits of Baba Tonka, Nikola Obretenov, Zahari Stoyanov and Elias Canetti will be painted. On the second wall there will be the faces of four sports legends – Veselin Topalov, Lyubo Ganev, Valentin Yordanov and Neshka Robeva. On the third wall the emblem of Ruse – the Statue of Liberty will be depicted.
Ruse Municipality continuously invests in the renewal of the urban environment through the talent of young artists. We remind you that in October the “Graffiti Festival. Port of 60 Ship Statues” was held, financed under the “Culture” Program of Ruse Municipality. The project brought together 30 internationally recognized artists from Bulgaria, the USA, Japan, Finland, Austria, Japan and Germany, as well as young artists from Ruse, who together created innovative visions for graffiti, and the goal is for them to be realized next year.
