Thursday, 11 September 2025

The handover of the documentation from the restoration of the tomb of Zahari Stoyanov in the Park of the Revivalists was the main highlight of today's working meeting between Mayor Pencho Milkov and Stanislav Stanev and Plamen Minkov from the Zahari Stoyanov Foundation - Ruse. During the conversation, the upcoming initiatives related to the celebration of the 175th anniversary of the birth of the Revivalist and 140 years of the Unification of the Principality of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia were also discussed. On September 12, the foundation organized a round table and documentary exhibition dedicated to these significant anniversaries at the Regional History Museum.
"What you and your supporters have done is much more than restoration, the result of all your efforts is the example you set. Goodness is contagious and I truly believe that we can learn from our fellow citizens who made Ruse what we know it to be today. Such is your work in the Park of the Renaissance, and in time this cause will be told by Ruse residents," the mayor addressed the representatives of the foundation.
Within 3 years, the tomb of Zahari Stoyanov underwent structural strengthening and restoration of stone elements. The activities were carried out by specialized companies, with funds provided by donors. The project has been coordinated with the National Institute for Immovable Cultural Heritage.
"3 years ago, we came to you with an idea, which subsequently turned into a cause that united the labor and efforts of many Ruse residents. Thanks to you and your support, we were able to bring our initiative to completion," said Plamen Minkov. According to him, all the people who participated in the restoration were united by their common desire to leave something for future generations. The representatives of the foundation also expressed their gratitude to the administration employees who contributed to the implementation of the project.
Stanislav Stanev and Plamen Minkov presented Pencho Milkov with a model of the tomb of the famous Bulgarian. Its sculptor is Daniel Kanchev, and the overall vision of the model is the work of five people who do not know each other, but will meet for the first time tomorrow at the official ceremony.
Tomorrow, at 1:30 p.m., a round table will be opened at the Regional History Museum with a moderator, Prof. Dr. Lyubomir Vladimirov. Reports will be given by Acad. Ivan Granitski, Prof. Dr. Vera Boneva, public figure Krasimir Georgiev, Phd. Kapka Ivanova, Phd. Iskren Velikov and Reneta Roshkeva from RIM - Ruse. At 5 p.m. the postal-philatelic edition "175 years since the birth of Angel Kanchev and Zahari Stoyanov" will be put into use.
At 5:30 p.m. a ceremony will be held to present honorary badges to the participants in the donation campaign of the Zahari Stoyanov Foundation.
