Mayor Pencho Milkov opened the large-scale sports forum "Sports4GreenDeal"

"I am happy that today we can launch such a wonderful initiative in Ruse. Our city loves sport and is developing dozens of activities in this direction. With the help of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and European support, we will welcome guests from 9 countries in the coming days. We have tried to provide excellent conditions for all the competitors and I am convinced that they will achieve impressive results, as well as have fun in our beautiful city and on the lake in Lipnik Forest Park.
With these words Mayor Pencho Milkov addressed all the attendees at the opening press conference of the Sports for Green Deal project, funded by the Erasmus programme of the European Commission, which was held in ''St. George" in the local administration building. The official guests of the opening ceremony were Iliana Hristova, Director of the Directorate "European Programmes'', Projects and International Cooperation" at the Ministry of Youth and Sport, Teodora Sarakostova, State Expert and Assoc. dr. Daniela Oronova from NSA.
In the hall ''St. George" was also attended by representatives of clubs participating in the sports event - from Serbia, Germany, Turkey and RS Macedonia. The representatives of the other 4 countries are expected to arrive tonight and in the early hours of tomorrow.
Assoc. Daniela Oronova presented a brief history of dragon boats from ancient times to the present day. She also noted the recently held festival on the lake in Pancharevo, stressing the importance of the upcoming World Dragon Boat Championships, which will be held in 2025 on the lake in the Lipnik Forest Park and which will be hosted by Ruse Municipality.
The excellent interaction between RU "Angel Kanchev" and Ruse Municipality was noted in the address of Dr. Valery Yordanov - Head of the Department of Physical Education and Sport at the University. Representatives of the German orienteering club OC Munchen, sports club "Piccolo" from Turkey, sports club orienteering "Zlatovrv"from RS Macedonia,Sports Tourism and Nature Protection Society "Akademik" - Ruse, Speleo club "Akademik", SC "Dalian" and others took part in the press conference through their presentations.
Tomorrow's programme includes racing in the 500m Dragon Boat discipline, with a demonstration of the attractive craft on Sunday. At 17:00 and 17:45 in the Youth Park in Ruse will start competitions in orienteering and athletics running.
