More than 550 children underwent free preventive examinations under the Municipal Program "My Teeth - Healthy and White"

In the period from May 14 to June 27, 557 children underwent free preventive examinations by a dentist under the innovative Municipal Program "My Teeth - Healthy and White". The initiative aims at the prevention and prevention of caries of children from 1 to 3 years old attending a crèche on the territory of the municipality of Ruse.

The examinations were carried out by Dr. Elizabeth Yordanova in the form of a game with the special toys "Hippo" and "Pinko", using disposable dental mirrors purchased by the Municipality of Ruse for each kindergarten.

The children received a gift of a brush and toothpaste from the company "Rubella Beauty".

The results show that of the children examined between the ages of 1 and 3, 265 children or 48% have dental health problems. The most common problem is poor dental hygiene – abundant plaque in the central and lateral incisors and proximal caries of the molars in children over 2 years of age. In 34 children /6%/ initial forms of caries are observed. During the examinations, children with inflamed gums were also diagnosed.

Parents of children with an identified problem received written recommendations for follow-up treatment and guidelines for maintaining good oral hygiene, and nurses, pedagogues and nursery directors were given methodological guidelines. A demonstration was also made for the proper dental hygiene of the temporary dentition.

The focus of the program in 2024 was also on useful and harmful foods for children's teeth.

Statistics show that the percentage of children with dental health problems at an early age remains high.

The municipal program "My teeth - healthy and white" will continue next school year. In this way, it will be possible to track the condition of children registered with problems, as well as to cover the newly admitted graduates of nurseries.
