The Armenian community in Ruse celebrated the Nativity of Christ with a festive charity concert in the hall of the Armenian Community Center "Angela Chakaryan-2008". The organizers of the celebration are the community center, the Pan-Armenian Benevolent Union "Parekordzagan" and the Armenian Apostolic Church. The concert is also in aid of the Armenian refugees from Artsakh (Nagorni-Karabakh), and the mayor of Ruse Pencho Milkov attended it.
"On this holy day it is time to open our hearts, be united and do good deeds. Your community is an example of unity through the way you express your brotherly love. I wish Christmas to bring you much happiness and prosperity," Mayor Milkov greeted the attendees.
The festive event began with a prayer by the spiritual shepherd of the Orthodox Armenians in Ruse, Dirayr Hadavyan. He blessed all the laity and called on them to do their best to help the Armenian refugees from Artsakh.
The concert passed under the festive sounds of Armenian Christmas songs and dances, and the children from the community had prepared poems and stories to greet Santa Claus.
Armenia was the first country to officially convert to Christianity in 301, and Christmas is one of the biggest religious holidays. The Armenian Church celebrates it on the same day as Epiphany. On the Nativity of Christ, Armenians greet each other with the words - "Christ is born and blessed be his Epiphany".
