Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev visited the Ruse-Giurgiu border checkpoint to get acquainted on the spot with the situation with the passage of heavy trucks. He was accompanied by the caretaker Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Violeta Koritarova. At the Danube Bridge, they met with the Mayor of Ruse Pencho Milkov, the Regional Governor Draganov, the Chairman of the Municipal Council Acad. Hristo Beloev and the Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to Romania H. E. Radko Vlaikov. The visit was part of the government's efforts to ease traffic at border checkpoints and find solutions to the problems with long queues of heavy trucks.
During the visit, Prime Minister Glavchev inspected the repair of the Bulgarian section of the bridge, which began on July 10, and discussed the possibility of separating the flows of heavy goods vehicles from EU member states and third countries. At the meeting, the proposal for the establishment of additional counters and the construction of modern parking lots for waiting and rest, which will alleviate the workload at the border checkpoints, was also commented. We remind you that a few days ago, representatives of the transport industry supported the government's ideas, emphasizing the importance of their rapid implementation to improve traffic flow and reduce waiting times.
The Prime Minister discussed with the contractor the repair works of the Danube Bridge and the possibilities for accelerating the construction works.
After the border crossing, the Prime Minister, Mayor Pencho Milkov and the Regional Governor Dragomir Draganov visited the Ruse-Giurgiu ferry line, which is key to alleviating traffic between the two countries. Glavchev noted that Bulgaria is ready to resume it as soon as possible, as it can reduce heavy goods traffic by between 20 and 30 percent. The ambitions on the Bulgarian side are for this to happen in September, and this measure will provide an additional alternative for transport and reduce the workload at the border crossing. The Prime Minister noted that the government will continue to work closely with local authorities and the transport industry to find effective solutions to the problems of heavy traffic.
The Mayor of Ruse Municipality Pencho Milkov and the Regional Governor Dragomir Draganov expressed their support for the initiatives of the Prime Minister and noted that the improvements in infrastructure and traffic organization are essential for the economic development of the region and improving the daily lives of local residents.
Pencho Milkov also spoke with the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Violeta Koritarova, who assured him that the local administration will participate together with the regional ministry and the management of the Road Infrastructure Agency in the upcoming preparation of the design assignment for the reconstruction of Blvd. "Bulgaria" along its entire length.
