With a commemorative ceremony in front of the memorial of the fallen in the wars for national unification, the people of Ruse honored the memory of Hristo Botev and all known and unknown heroes who sacrificed their lives for the independence of Bulgaria.

"On a day like today, we need to look back at the life and work of Botev and assess where in our thoughts are the Motherland, the neighbour, the unity with other Bulgarians. The great revolutionary leaves us an important message of unity and common purpose, because only through solidarity can we build a better and stronger community. Let his sacrifice remind us that no price is too high for the freedom and dignity of our people," Mayor Pencho Milkov addressed the audience.

The regional governor Anatoly Stanev and the chairman of the Municipal Council of Ruse Ivo Pazardzhiev also made speeches, and priests from the Holy Metropolis of Ruse offered a funeral prayer. Traditionally, a guard of honour from the Ruse garrison was stationed at the site.

At the end of the ceremony, under the sounds of military marches, performed by the Municipal Brass Band conducted by Dimcho Rubchev, the people of Ruse offered wreaths and flowers and showed their respect to the exploits of the fallen with a minute of silence.
