Ruse will celebrate 144th anniversary of the establishment of the Bulgarian Navy

On 7 August /Monday/ the 144th anniversary of the establishment of the Bulgarian Navy will be celebrated in Ruse. The events are supported by Ruse Municipality.

At 6:15 p. m. , a flower laying ceremony will begin at the memorial plaque of the founder, Captain-Lieutenant Alexander Konkevich, in front of the Fleet Tower.

At 7 p. m. a military ritual of laying wreaths and flowers will be held in front of the only one in Bulgaria - the Sailor's Monument / ul. "Odrin" 9/.

"From here the Bulgarian seamanship began" - reads the inscription on the monument, where every year the celebrations for the foundation of the Navy traditionally begin.

At 8 pm, in front of the building of the Dokhodno zdanie will start the festive concert of the Representative Brass Band of the Navy.

On August 12, 1879 in the town of Ruse the Bulgarian Navy was established. At the end of the XIX century a fleet was established on the Black Sea. On 12 November 1897 the Flotilla and the Naval Unit were divided into the Danube Flotilla with headquarters in Ruse and the Naval Unit (Black Sea Fleet) with headquarters in Varna.

The first commander of the Bulgarian Navy was Captain-Lieutenant Alexander Konkevich (1842 - 1917).
