The anaerobic plant project in Ruse was reported at a final press conference

Ruse Municipality finally won the case against the financial correction for over 6 million leva



The final press conference on the anaerobic digestion plant project in Ruse took place in the building of Ruse Municipality. Construction work started in March and the site was completed in a shorter timeframe than originally proposed by the contractor.

The deputy mayor of Ruse Municipality Dimitar Nedev gave a final report at the press conference, attended by members of the team working on the project and representatives of the contractor.

"The anaerobic plant continues our efforts to improve the living environment in the region, and we hope that over time our fellow citizens will help to better manage waste," said Dimitar Nedev. According to him, the project will help to reduce the waste treatment charges that Ruse Municipality pays to the Regional Environmental Protection Agency. As an example, he cited the increase since 2012, where the amount for landfilling of household waste has increased more than 6 times per tonne.
This is only the third anaerobic installation in Bulgaria. The main objective of the project is the construction and commissioning of the installation and ensuring the separate collection of biodegradable waste from the member municipalities of the Regional Waste Management Association - Ruse. This will create additional capacity for recycling, which will reduce the total amount of landfilled waste, in line with the objectives of the Operational Programme "Environment 2014-2020". After its construction, it will be possible to treat biodegradable waste in an oxygen-free way, from which compost is subsequently produced, as well as methane for electricity and heat.
During the event it was announced that Ruse Municipality has won the case, which appealed the financial correction of more than 6 million leva imposed by the Managing Authority of the Operational Programme on the procedure for the selection of the contractor for the engineering of the anaerobic plant. The decision of the Supreme Court is final and confirms the decision of the Administrative Court - Ruse.

The activities are carried out under project No BG16M1OP002-2. 004-0003 "Design and construction of an anaerobic digestion plant for separately collected biodegradable waste on the territory of Regional Waste Management Association Ruse", financed by the Operational Programme "Environment 2014-2020" (Priority Axis 2 "Waste"), co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund of the European Union and national funds. The project has Ruse Municipality as lead beneficiary and the municipalities of Slivo Pole, Ivanovo, Tutrakan, Vetovo as partners, which are members of the Regional Waste Management Association.
