The Bulgarian track and field athlete Hristian Stoyanov was awarded with the award "Athlete No. 1 with disabilities of Bulgaria" for 2023 in the national ranking "Athlete of the Year". The athlete of sports athletics club "Dunav"-Ruse received the most votes in the poll of sports journalists after he triumphed in the 1500 m in Paris last July and became world champion for the second time in his career. His award at the special ceremony was received by his coach Evgeni Ignatov as Stoyanov is on a training camp ahead of the Paralympic Games in Paris later this year.

Our best runner among the Paralympians scored 430 points in the ranking, while the top 5 also included the honorary citizen of Vetovo and Glojevo Ruzhdi Ruzhdi (athletics) with 290 points, Georgi Peev (mountaineering/swimming) and Georgi Ivanov (basketball) with 70 points each and Alexander Asenov (athletics) with 50 points.

"Thank you for the nomination and award for Christian. It has been a very difficult year in which he realized his dream. For me it is a special joy for a coach, because when I see my athlete to be the first - this is the biggest reward", said coach Evgeni Ignatov.

Hristian Stoyanov, for his part, thanked for the award and for sending 2023 as a particularly successful year. "This year is one of the most important because it is an Olympic year. I believe that each of the athletes will do their best to bring joy and distinction to Bulgaria," added the silver medallist from the 2021 Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
