In the Park of the National Revival Heroes, in front of the monument of Vasil Levski, a commemorative ceremony was held on the occasion of the 187th anniversary of the birth of the Bulgarian revolutionary. The event was organized by the municipal and regional administrations in Ruse, and was attended by the Mayor of Ruse Municipality Pencho Milkov, Deputy Mayors Zlatomira Stefanova, Zdravka Velikova, Dimitar Nedev, Borislav Rachev and Nikola Lazarov, the Regional Governor Dragomir Draganov and his Deputy Georgi Georgiev, the Chairman of the Municipal Council of Ruse Acad. Hristo Beloev, municipal councilors and representatives of local and state authorities.
"Vasil Levski understood that the revolution is not made with weapons, but with daily conversations, enlightenment and work with every heart and soul of the Bulgarians in every village. Through this work, he believed that he could inspire unity and a common will for freedom," said Mayor Pencho Milkov in his speech. He emphasized that the Apostle of Freedom did not sing Bulgaria in odes, but worked daily with people with love and duty. "Man's life should be devoted not to personal gain and greatness, but to duty. To realize it and fight for its fulfillment – a duty to the family, the city and the homeland. Freedom is not a moment, it is not an act, it is not a date, it is not a place, it is a state. We will be free only to the extent that we fulfill our duty through daily work and struggle for the future of Bulgaria, as Levski bequeathed to us," added Mayor Milkov.
His Grace Bishop Macarius of Glavinitsa and priests from the Holy Metropolis of Ruse served a thanksgiving prayer in memory of the Apostle.
The Municipal Brass Band conducted by Dimcho Rubchev took part in the event, and in front of the monument of the Apostle was built a guard of honor from the National Society "Tradition" - Regional Branch "Angel Kanchev". The graduate of the Theater Studio "Mask" at the Municipal Youth House - Ruse Hristo Kostov performed the poem by Blaga Dimitrova "And all Levski".
At the end of the ceremony, representatives of political parties, educational institutions, local and state institutions and dozens of citizens laid wreaths and flowers at the monument of the Apostle of Freedom.
